Buying Art

Do you ever wonder if the work of art you’re considering buying is “a good buy”? Are you looking for a specific work to fill that gap in your collection? Or perhaps you are interested in buying “sound investment” pieces that will stand the test of time.

Whether you want assistance buying that one great piece, or someone who helps you build a coherent and outstanding art collection, our services are tailor-made for your requirements.

We believe in buying the best possible quality – “the best within the budget”. That means we are discerning about condition, provenance and attribution.

It all starts with listening carefully to your wishes. We want to know your objectives, taking into account your taste, lifestyle, goals and budget requirements. Some clients look for the best work of a certain artist or movement. In that case we make a short list of the best available pieces on the market worldwide. With other clients we are steadily building their collections. We visit artist’s studios, art fairs (Frieze Londen, Art Basel, Tefaf Maastricht to name a few), galleries, auction houses (Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Phillips) and art academy shows to get a broad view what is happening in the market. Not only is fun, it will provide you with in-depth knowledge and know-how about the art and artists you like. We advise on single aspects or are involved in the complete process, from viewing to buying to hanging and lighting. We assist with contract negotiations, and advise on third parties such as external experts, restorers, art handlers, insurers and framers. We do auction and gallery representation.

In some cases, such as born-digital artwork and video works, it makes sense to have agreements drawn up that guarantee the longevity of these potentially fragile artworks. Our company has the experience and know-how to provide you with the proper contracts to cover these aspects.

Our goal is to buy a great work or build a solid collection, but we also feel that the process should be fun and easy-going, making it a great experience for our clients. Visiting artist’s studios, art fairs or auctions with us are particular good examples of how we make the art world accessible and fun.
